Welcome to Your Living-Zoom: Story Week 2020
FRI 06 – SAT 14 NOVEMBER 2020
Story Week, our annual celebration of poetry slams, workshops and spoken-word storytelling events, will be held from the 6th to the 14th of November this year, with the Australian Poetry Slam National Final rounding out the week on the 14th.
For the first time, you can experience Story Week no-matter your location. All our events will be held virtually across our website and social media, so whether locked-down or finding relative freedom these days, you will be able to join us for a week of storytelling, celebration, and connection.
This connection is at the heart of our program this year, where across the various platforms, we explore ways in which live poetry and storytelling can be shared and made meaningful via streaming, video conferencing, instant messaging and, where possible, socially-distanced in Sydney’s CBD.
Creative Director of Word Travels Miles Merrill says, “In a way 2020 has presented Story Week with a unique opportunity. Yes, we can’t gather together physically, but the move online gives us an opportunity to engage with even more artists across Australia and overseas.”
“2020 has been a challenging year for many. But through struggle, great stories come; and these stories will be at the forefront of this year’s festival program,” he adds.
My Latest Epiphany; Story Weeks largest international event series, is a daily lunchtime live show where musicians, poets and producers from around the world share their newest revelations. Legendary American hip-hop artist/poet reg e gaines, beat box champion Darian Dauchan and Inuit throat singers/hip hop act Silla + Rise, all feature in this year’s program, alongside artists on our own soil, including DOBBY, Barkaa, and last year’s APS champion, wāni Le Frère.
All our daily and one-of events—as well as details of each State Final and National Australian Poetry Slam Final—are detailed on our Story Week program page.
During Story Week we carve out a space to tell stories and speaking truths. In doing so online, we reflect on the importance of these shared connections, no matter the year, or circumstances, or pandemic.
So, join us, and hear those stories for a week in November.
